Artist's Statement

The Butterfly Series is a collection of five digital art pieces that explores growth in relation to femininity. The women in these pieces are presented as butterflies on their own designated flower. We frequently enjoy the narrative of metamorphosis from caterpillar to butterfly, but I wanted to think about what happens after becoming a butterfly. There is so much more to learn, experience, and feel, and we never stop growing. For most of the women's poses, I drew inspiration from dance, specifically ballet. The colors were chosen based on the flowers I used for each piece but also to emphasize the stages of which the women are going through. These pieces serve as a reminder of how we are always growing and changing as we continue to live our lives.
