ISABEL LI
[twin flames]
Poet's Description
When I thought of “resilience,” I immediately thought of an image of a small fire in an oil lamp struggling to stay aflame in a winter storm. Since this was written during a time of lonely isolation, I wanted to juxtapose the flame with my personal experience clinging onto hope in the face of adversity, the two subjects mirroring each others' tenacity. This twin cinema poem depicts the "twin flames" as parallel entities, fighting to survive and ultimately recovering. There are three distinct ways to read the poem; all of them correlate to a story of resilience regardless of how one reads it.
